Cultural notes
Kakao T (Kakao Taxi) and Tada dominate Korean rideshare. Kakao Mobility piloted an optional in-app tipping feature for taxi drivers in 2023 and met overwhelming public resistance: a Korea Herald survey found 71.7% opposed it and only 17.2% supported it. The feature was never formally rolled out to all rides, and tipping rideshare drivers remains decisively not a local norm.
Common mistakes
Selecting the rare "thank you" tip prompt if it ever appears — locals overwhelmingly skip it and the feature was widely rejected.
Frequently asked questions
Should I tip a Kakao Taxi driver?
No. The fare in the app is the full payment.
Does Kakao T have a tip option?
A 2023 pilot existed and was widely opposed; tipping is not the cultural norm.
